Project Consultations: Why They’re So Important
New project consultations are an incredibly important aspect to zero in and determine what your creative needs may or may not be.
Like taking your car to a mechanic, or to the Docs for an injury or illness, each will ask you important questions about your “symptoms”. They need to gather preliminary info to get to the root of the situation and what the best solution may be to resolve it.
Picture the following scenarios:
Scenario 1: You go to a Doctor because you are not feeling well. In order to determine what ails you and what the best course of action is to get you healthy again, you are asked a series of questions by the Doc like:
• Are you coughing?
• Does your throat hurt?
• Do you have a fever?
• Body aches and pains?
The Doc is gathering relevant, important info so he can provide you with a viable solution that best addresses you current condition – aka a diagnosis. He’s identifying the nature of the illness or condition by an examination of the symptoms.
Scenario 2: You go to a mechanic because your car appears to be making a funny noise among other things. Just like the Doc, your mechanic begins to ask you a series of questions to best determine what the problem is and how or what he needs to fix in order to get your car running smoothly once again.
New project consultations work in a similar way – to learn more about you and your project’s objectives.
Consultations can be Incredibly Beneficial
Project consultations are incredibly beneficial. There may be aspects of your project you have not considered – yet are incredibly relevant and need to be taken into account before a new project may commence. Like the Doc and mechanic, to diagnose and best address your creative needs, gathering some initial information before a consultation is a necessity! It’s to get a sense of who you are along with the creative services you may require for your business and determine which may be the best approach to reach a successful solution. They also help to dial in the products or services you may want to promote as well as the different media channels you’d like to utilize to do so.
Project Consultations Can Save You Money
Take for example you notice a decrease in sales calls or leads coming from your website. As this is your primary marketing tool, the drop is cause for concern. Your first thought may be that you need a new website. However, it may not be the case at all – that is unless your site is outdated and has never had any updates or maintenance. But if you have been tending to your site regularly (and you should), what your site may need instead is some serious search engine optimization. SEO is still an investment, but likely a lot less than a whole new site that you did not need.
Last little note…
Most creatives have different processes to determine whether or not they may take on a given project. They (like myself) may utilize a Project Qualifying Questionnaire. It’s a few short questions which need to be answered and returned for review prior to a consultation. Upon assessment of the information provided, it will determine whether a new project may move forward with a consultation.
